The Scranton sesquicentennial committee has scheduled a meeting for Monday, Jan. 29, at 7 pm in the Scranton city hall. The committee is looking for additional volunteers to assist in planning the 150th celebration of the community. The date of Saturday, June 29, 2019, has been scheduled for the event.
Everyone in the community is invited to attend and become part of the planning committee. Members of Scranton Betterment, Friends of the Library, Varceis, 4-H, United Charities, and other individuals or organizations are welcome.
Janet Christian advises that a cookbook committee is working to compile the best recipes from the Scranton area to compliment the sesquicentennial. Plans are that it will be for sale for Christmas of this year, as well as the sesquicentennial in 2019 and the all school reunion in 2020.
Christian noted she agreed to compile a history of Scranton and the community but that she needs entries from businesses, agri-businesses, social organizations, churches, etc. Contributions may be sent to her at 602 Madison St or left at the Scranton library, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, or city hall. ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
